An electrode is generally a consumable item. Depending on your usage, Instrument Choice recommends replacing your device’s salinity, conductivity, or pH electrode every 6-24 months to ensure reliable results.
Three main things will alert you that it’s time to replace an electrode:
- Difficulty or inability to calibrate the device
- Unstable, variable or slow readings; or
- Physical signs of damage or wear and tear.
The IC-ST20S is a value-for-money salinity meter that our scientists often recommend. This salinity meter offers a simple-to-use, fast, straightforward, and no-frills operation. What’s more, the manufacturer OHAUS is renowned for the quality of its devices and the IC-ST20S doesn’t disappoint. The device boasts a sturdy construction and has proven to be durable even in the toughest of environments. We also love that the design incorporates a replaceable electrode. Rather than replace the entire device, you can change the electrode and be back using your salinity meter in a matter of minutes.
When the time comes, follow this step-by-step guide to changing the IC-ST20S salinity meter electrode.
How to Replace the Electrode Probe on the IC-ST20S Salinity Meter by OHAUS
- (0:26) Pull to remove the storage cap.
- (0:28) Twist off the red probe ring around the electrode.
- (0:35) Gently pull to unplug the old probe and separate from the meter.
- (0:42) Plugin the new electrode, paying attention to the position. The tracks on the new electrode will line up with the electrode body.
- (0:53) Screw the probe ring back in place, tighten and replace the probe cap.
CONCLUSION
It’s essential to replace an electrode on a meter when the sensor is noticeably damaged, will not calibrate or, that is giving unstable and slow readings. With the IC-ST20S, this is a quick and straightforward task that is much cheaper than replacing the entire device.
