How to Change the Membrane Cap on the IC-HI98193 Dissolved Oxygen Probe

How to Change the Membrane Cap on the IC-HI98193 Dissolved Oxygen Probe

The IC-HI98193 is a rugged, portable dissolved oxygen meter designed for demanding fieldwork applications. Knowing how to change a new membrane cap becomes essential at the initial setup, when doing routine maintenance,or should the membrane becomes damaged. Correctly installing the membrane cap is necessary for precise dissolved oxygen readings.

This video article provides you a step-by-step guide to ensure proper and safe changeover of your membrane cap.

Figure 1 Watch an Instrument Choice Scientist demonstrate How to Change the Membrane Cap on the Hanna Instruments IC-HI98193 Dissolved Oxygen Probe here.

How to Change the Membrane Cap on the Hanna Instruments IC-HI98193 Dissolved Oxygen Probe

To correctly change the membrane cap, you will need;

  • The IC-HI98193 Dissolved Oxygen Probe
  • A replacement membrane cap
  • Electrolyte Solution for Polarographic DO Probes.
  • A small container
    1. Start by removing the clear protective cap. Set this aside.
    2. Twist to remove the old membrane cap. Discard the old cap after the installation of the new membrane is complete.
    3. Soak the bottom 2.5cm of the probe in some electrolyte solution for 5 minutes.
    4. After 5 minutes has elapsed, check the new membrane cap to ensure the membrane is not damaged, and the O-ring is sitting correctly inside.
    5. Place a few drops of the electrolyte solution into the new membrane.
    6. Press finger over the opening of the cap to cover then, shake gently to prime the membrane cap with the electrolyte solution. Discard the solution after priming.
    7. Fill the membrane cap to the top with some fresh electrolyte solution.
    8. Gently tap the sides of the membrane cap with your fingertips to ensure no air bubbles are trapped. Do not tap the membrane as this may cause damage.
    9. With the membrane facing down, slowly screw the cap onto the probe in a clockwise direction. Some electrolytes will overflow.
    10. After replacement, we recommend waiting at least 15 minutes to ensure the precise conditioning of the probe.
    11. The next step is calibration. Watch an Instrument Choice Scientist perform an automatic two-point calibration in the video 'How to Calibrate the IC-HI98193 Waterproof Portable Dissolved Oxygen Meter'.

Conclusion

When following the steps outlined above, installing or replacing the membrane cap on the Hanna Instruments Waterproof Dissolved Oxygen Meter is simple and will take you less than ten minutes.
