The C-DSM1 Sound Level Meter enables users to take sound level measurements with ease.This meter can measure sound from 30 to 130dB, set fast or slow responses as well as utilise both A and C weightings to measure sounds within the response range of the human ear.
This sound meter packs these, and many other highly functional features into a handheld and easy-to-use sound level meter.
Before Measuring Sound Level
To take a sound level measurement, you must first set up the correct sound level, response time, and weighting. To help with selections, we have defined each of the terms below;
- Weighting - The weighting selections on the C-DSM1 are A and C weighting. A-weighting; is for general noise and sound level measurements and, C-weighting is more for checking the low-frequency content of noises.
- Response time – Select either a fast (F) or slow(S) response time. Fast response is for standard measurements with rapid varying noise, and slow measurements are for checking the average level of fluctuating noise.
- Sound Level – The C-DSM1 has two sound level ranges of being low (LO) and high (HI). The measured levels are LO: 30-100dB and HI:60-130dB.
How to Measure Sound Level Using the C-DSM1 Sound Level Meter
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the C-DSM1.
- Select the correct weighting for your intended measurement by pressing the A/C button. Press and release the A/C button until the required weighting appears on the LCD screen.
- Select the response time for the meter by pressing the F/S button until the required response time appears on the LCD screen.
- Select the correct sound weighing for your intended measurement. Press the Hi/Lo button until the required weighting appears on the LCD screen.
- The meter will now be taking constant measurements within the selected ranges. Move the sound level meter into the area you wish to measure. You can make adjustments and change the chosen sound level parameters at any time.

Measurement Notes; Hold Function: At any time during a reading, press the MAX/HOLD button for two seconds to hold a result on the screen. To exit the hold function and return to measurement, press the MAX/HOLD for two seconds. Maximum Function: The device allows for the maximum only reading to be displayed. The maximum recorded value will remain on the screen as the meter takes further measurements. If at any time the maximum sound level is exceeded, the amount on the screen will change to the new maximum value. |
