How to Create a Moisture Map with a Tramex Moisture Encounter Plus Meter (IC-MEP) plus App

Moisture mapping is a powerful technique that enables building inspectors to determine the rate of change in moisture patterns along with the measurement of any improvement in moisture levels after rectifying a building fault.

The IC-MEP is a popular moisture meter for damage-free drywall, roofing or wood moisture level investigations. Using this device with the Tramex application, you can easily create, save, share, and interpret the data from your moisture map.

Figure 1 Watch an Instrument Choice Scientist demonstrate how to create a moisture map using the IC-MEP and the Tramex App here.

11 Steps to Create A Moisture Map, Using the IC-MEP and the Tramex ‘Moisture Map Creator’ App.

  1. Download the Tramex application to your smartphone or tablet. See the additional links to the Android and Apple stores.
  2. Create your user profile by entering your email, username, and password.
  3. Select ‘New Moisture Map.’
  4. Choose between two options, either uploading or taking a photo.
  5. If uploading a photo, select an image from your library. If taking a photo, press ‘take a photo’ and take a picture of the complete area you wish to moisture map.
  6. Once your photo has been taken, crop and adjust the image if needed. Press OK to move to the next option.
  7. A grid will appear over the selected or taken pictures.
  8. Turn on your IC-MEP, select the appropriate reference setting, either wood/timber, drywall/roofing, or plaster/brick.
  9. Take measurements of the area that corresponds to the map. Repeat this until you have mapped your entire photographed area.
    1. To measure the MEP, press down on the mapped area and a moisture result will appear instantly on the dial.
    2. Using the app’s sliding scale, enter the number corresponding to the moisture measurement. Press the green tick to confirm this measurement and mark any change in moisture.
  10. As you enter the data, differing areas of moisture will have corresponding colours on a scale from green (lower moisture) to red (higher moisture). The top of each colour will have a comparable moisture percentage recorded on the top left.
  11. Once complete, save and/or share your map using the application.

CONCLUSION

The IC-MEP used in conjunction with the Tramex Moisture Mapping Application has made moisture mapping more accessible and straightforward. Following the eleven simple steps listed above will remove the need for you to plot out and hand-record charts, which can be an incredibly time-consuming process. The app makes sharing your data with clients or customers a breeze.
