Introducing the VDV II Series of Voice, Data and Video Cable Verifiers
The VDV II Series comprises three easy-to-use cable testers that assess the integrity of copper cables commonly found in domestic, commercial and industrial voice, data or video cabling installations, such as telephone wiring, data network and video/security cabling.
This article details the VDV II Series of Voice, Data and Video Cable Verifiers and compares the three models available.

After decades of success, Trend Networks currently offer an extensive range of innovative data cable and network testing equipment that provide fast, accurate results in all circumstances.
Introducing the VDV II Series of Voice, Data and Video Cable Verifiers
The VDV II series of cable testers offer state-of-the-art technology and advanced functionality not seen before in a wire mapper. You can expect these cutting-edge devices to identify complex wiring faults almost instantaneously, and they include TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) technology that improves troubleshooting and on-site productivity.
VDV II Series Features and Benefits
- Intelligent: Rapidly determines which media service is running over cables.
- Fast: VDV II meters identify wiring errors almost instantly, providing comprehensive details on such faults as opens, shorts, crossovers and split pairs.
- Rapid testing of most low-voltage cables is possible due to integrated voice, data and video connectors that eliminate the need for separate testers or adapters.
- Multimedia Test ports for verification of low voltage copper cables, including:
- 6 pin RJ12 socket for RJ11, RJ12, RJ14 or RK25 voice cable testing
- 75Ω F-Coax socket for video cable testing; and
- 8 pin shielded RJ45 socket for data cable testing.
- Support for all standard LAN cables: For Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Cat 7, UTP and STP Testing.
- Voltage Protection: Cable testing is disabled if over 2V is detected, ensuring your safety.
- TDR technology for high accuracy: The VDV II Pro utilises TDR to measure cable length and accurately provide distance to fault information. TDR pinpoints where cabling faults occur by sending a signal into the cable and measuring the elapsed time for a signal to be broadcast, then rereturn to the device after encountering changes in impedance caused by cable damage, open and short circuits. The recorded time is then translated into an accurate distance measurement.
VDV II Series Applications
The VDV II series has three core applications:
- Data: Test shielded and unshielded Cat 5/5e/6/6A/7 LAN cables
- Voice: Supports for 1, 2 or 3-pair RJ11/12 telephone cable testing; and
- Video: Test coax cable through an F-connector interface.
