The PR-9 sonic tester is a dedicated design for the racing industry, and commonly used to measure the thickness of cylinder walls, head ports, decks, chassis tubing, body panels, and windshields. An additional benefit is the dual element style of probe with the ability to locate blind surface corrosion or deterioration on the blind surface in the water jacket area prior to boring a cylinder or port.
The high speed scan feature takes 100 measurements per second to save time when scanning a complete cylinder. Simply drag the probe from the bottom of the cylinder, at a given clock position in the cylinder, up to the deck area to locate the minimum thickness found. Scan can then be switched off and the user can find the exact location of the minimum thickness.
The PR-9 has three material calibration options (single point, two point, and target velocity) for increased accuracy. Cylinder wall mapping software available for manually creating reports. Finally, our 5 year limited warranty indicates how we feel about the quality.
Features:
- Includes NIST Calibration Certificate
- Special-purpose probes are offered for a variety of applications
- High Speed Scan Mode displays the lowest measurement found during a scan
- Resolution of 0.001 inch (0.01 mm)
- CE Certified

Transducer and Probe Information
For Engine Blocks (Cylinders & Decks)
One probe is usually good for use on both Cast Aluminum and Cast Iron Engine Blocks. The 2 inch radius allows the probe to measure the concave surface inside cylinders. The radius is gentle enough that the same probe can also be used to measure on the flat surfaces "decks" on the block. This one probe will work for over 90% of Cast Aluminum or Cast Iron Blocks.
- T-104-2120: This is the standard probe supplied with PR-9
- T-104-4120: if the block is made from a very old Aluminum Cast Aluminum (sold separately)
For Heads (Ports)
- Cast Iron: 0.250"/5MHz with 0.55" Radius with 1 inch wand (T-162-2110) or with 9 inch wand (T-132-2110). Each sold separately.
- Cast Aluminum: 0.250/10MHz with 0.55" Radius with 1 inch wand (T-162-4110) or
with 9 inch wand (T-132-4110).
For Chassis Tubing
This would be used by chassis builders as well as sanctioning bodies (i.e. NHRA, ARCA, etc.). One probe is normally suitable for any application, assuming they do not want thru-paint capability.
- T-101-4000: 3/16"-10MHz flat bottom (no radius)
