Wile Penetrometer or soil compaction tester is a handy fluid dampened gauge providing a simple solution for measuring soil compaction, as well as the depths at which possible compacted patches are located.

Your Soil Compaction Tester is a penetrometer which measures the compaction of soil and is based on the ASAE S313.3 standard. The tester is supplied with two tips: a small tip (1/2" diameter) for use in firm soil and a large tip (3/4" diameter) for use in soft soil. The dial has two scales (one for each tip) that are calibrated in pounds per square inch of the base area of the cone shaped tip.

The set includes two replaceable tips for different soil compaction levels:
- The smaller for compacted soil
- The larger for soft soil.

The easy to read dial shows soil compactness in colour sections:
- Green: good growing conditions
- Yellow: reasonable growing conditions
- Red: poor growing conditions.

The dial of the meter has separate scales for each tip.
