The Problem:

Weather stations at Schools are becoming a popular commodity and are used by students for both educational purposes and for interest purposes. They allow the students to view a variety of weather parameters and help to spark interest in the world that surrounds them. You want a station that will enable students to view the current parameters on a computer or tablet so that you can share the data around the School without the need to have the display passed around the School. So which option is right for you?

The Solution:

The Davis IC6250AU or the IC6163AU Weather Stations with the WeatherlinkIP Software package are the perfect setups for these requirements. These setups feature a robust outdoor sensor suite; the IC6250AU features sensors that measure rainfall, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, whilst the IC6163AU will allow you to measure these along with Solar Radiation and UV. The advantage of the IC6163AU is that the wind speed and wind direction sensor can be mounted separately to the rest of the sensors meaning you can mount them at different heights if desired. It also features a fan aspirated radiation shield so if you are in an area of low air flow you will receive greater accuracy with regards to your temperature and humidity readings. The other key advantage is that it features a solar radiation and UV sensor which has become popular for sun safety.

The outdoor sensor suite then transmits wirelessly back to a console housed indoors (300m line of sight, ~100m through obstructions), the console will then display real time data and can also be used to recall some historical data. To the console the WeatherlinkIP dongle is connected and plugs in directly to a spare port on a broadband router as it features an Ethernet connection. This then uploads your information directly to the Weatherlink.com server and will allow for a summary page of your weather data to be accessed using your login and can be viewed on a webpage, or via an App for Apple or Android. An example of what the students would be able to view on the webpage is shown below:

WeatherLink Network

This means that student’s right around the school can gain access to a weather summary if they have access to a computer with the internet or a device that supports the App meaning the console will not need to be passed around the school in order to view data.
