- The probe ID will appear in the list of probes on the second half of the app screen.
- When your probe appears, press Connect next to the device name. If you have multiple devices, you can confirm the device serial number against the name. The serial number is located on the neck of the probe.
- Wait a moment, and the device will connect and automatically begin wirelessly sending pH and temperature information to the application.
Setup Menu
- There are several setup options. To enter and adjust these options, press the small settings icon on the top right of the measurement screen.
- The option is first is CALIBRATE. Pressing this takes you into the guided calibration mode. Read the Instrument Choice article “How to Calibrate the Hanna HALO Wireless pH Meter” for a complete calibration guide.
- Below on your screen, the options will appear in the following sequence. The first setup option is LOG. Here you can clear, save or share logged data.
- Next, you’ll find MEASURE options. Here you can adjust the following four MEASURE options.
- Measure Mode: Choose between pH and mV.
- Resolution: The resolution is in pH mode. Select between 0.1, 0.01 or 0.001.
- Temperature compensation: Choose between automatic temperature compensation or set the manual temperature compensation.
- Temperature Display: Choose the temperature display unit between Celcius or Fahrenheit.
- Next, adjust the measurement screen result view between; Basic, Graph, Table, Simple GLP or Full GLP.
- Then, set the table display (if applicable) between; All Data or Tagged Data.
- Choose the graph display (if applicable) between; pH, temperature or both.
- Set the stability criteria between; slow, medium or fast.
- Choose your automatically recognised calibration buffer values. Select between; Hanna (1.68, 4.01, 7.01, 10.01, 12.45) or NIST (1.68, 4.01, 6.86, 9.18, 12.45).
- Set a calibration reminder. Choose between; none, 6 hours or 1, 2, 5, 7 or 14 days
- Adjust alarm the settings. Enter a high and low value for the temperature, pH or mV alarms. Use the toggle switches on the right to activate or deactivate the alarms.
- After you have adjusted your required settings, press the back button on your phone to return to measurement
Preparing The Electrode
- Remove the probe from the plastic storage tube by unscrewing the top collar to vent the cap before removing it. Put the cap and collar aside for probe storage after use.
- If it is your first time using the meter, verify that the pH bulb contains electrolyte solution. If not, shake the probe in a downward motion as the liquid may have moved up the stem during shipping.
- Place the probe in deionised water and gently rinse off any storage liquid or salts that may appear on the electrode’s glass.
- The HALO Hanna pH meter is then ready to be calibrated and used!
Conclusion
The Hanna HALO pH meter is straightforward to set up. Within minutes, you can be taking laboratory grade pH and temperature measurements using your smartphone or tablet.
